To mark the centenary of legendary codebreaker Alan Turing, The Science Museum commissioned us to conceptualise and create the wonderful interactive HTML5 Codebreaker Challenge game.

Casting the user into an immersive 1940’s inspired gaming world, they must solve mind boggling challenges set by the encryption experts of GCHQ and inspired by the very messages and ciphers Alan Turing and his team at Bletchley Park decoded to unlock the secrets of the Enigma machine.

It’s got all the elements of a Hollywood blockbuster – the big names, the hero, the secrets, the war torn backdrop – who could fail to love it?

We developed the project from a simple downloadable PDF paper game into an online HTML5 cross platform gaming challenge – creating an editorial story, new functionality and immersive user experience to better enhance the gaming experience and helping to inspire a new generation of code breakers.
