Testimonials
I have previously worked with aerian on a number of Bitesize projects and when I moved to the world service trust I was keen to work with Paul and his team again. As per usual they were brilliant to work with and delivered a site for a Bangladesh audience on the Moodle platform (not a your usual brief) in super quick time which is always nice. They took a deep interest in the project and were always prepared to go the extra mile.
Aerian made some great suggestions for improvements. to the site even though it meant more work for them!
BBC Janala Prototype
Client: BBC World Service TrustLaunch date: 19/11/2010
BBC Janala is a prototype BBC World Service Trust project enabling people of Bangladesh access to a wide range of English learning quizzes. The prototype website is a proposed update to the existing website design and system currently seen on http://www.bbcjanala.com/
As the people of Bangladesh have a very limited internet connection and only low specification machines the design for this project was very specific. The requirements was that the page weight would be no more than 85k per page and display correctly on a page resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. Overcoming the design challenges of this brief involved using specially selected flat colours, limiting the use of images that would add to page weight and cause any download problems. When images are required, we have made sure a uniform size was selected and all are appropriately compressed to ensure minimum page size requirements were met.
The content of BBC Janala comes from an integration with the Moodle Open Soure Learning Tool. In order to keep page weight low we created a custom front end incorporating the generated content entered through the standard Moodle Content Management System through the Moodle PHP API. The Moodle implementation has been further developed to allow additional content and features for the client not usually available from this software. The generated quizzes form a course structure allowing registered users to complete lessons and track their progress. A grading system was developed that awards certificates on completion of certain sections of the course and the course in its entirety.
We are very happy to have been involved in this project and look forward to working with the BBC World Service Trust team on future projects.
